The Curtain Lady:

Book Launch Aug. 5, 2023

Author Andrea Shepherd

The official launch of my first novel, The Curtain Lady, took place on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at the MonTango dance studio in Montreal.

Almost 100 people attended, dozens of copies were purchased and signed and I did a reading.

The venue is located in NDG, the neighbourhood where protagonist Poppy spends her teenage years. The decor featured red curtains like those of Poppy's childhood and an '80s playlist included all the music mentioned in the book.

It was a fun and emotional day for me. The publication of my first novel meant the fulfillment of one of my biggest lifelong dreams and I was touched to have so many friends, family members and fans there to share the momentous occasion and celebrate with me. I almost lost my composure when it came time to speak and read!

The book, set in Montreal in the 1980s, is a coming-of-age story with a haunting twist that follows Poppy Bell as she grows from child to adult, navigating discoveries, adventures, and more than a few nightmares along the way.

Thanks to everyone who attended or who has bought or read The Curtain Lady so far. If you enjoyed it, I would be grateful if you took a moment to leave a rating or review on Amazon or Goodreads, or to share on your social media.

Book Launch Party: 25 Tango Lessons

The book launch for 25 Tango Lessons took place at the MonTango Argentine tango school in Montreal on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.

Many friends, family members and fans were there as well as my wonderful team of collaborators: illustrator Juan C. Raggo; translator François Camus and translator/editor André Valiquette.

Many copies of the book were sold and signed, and I gave readings as well a tango demonstration with my wonderful partner, Wolf Mercado.

Distancing measures and attendance limits were in effect, but a great time was had by all. Thanks for joining me, and for reading me.
